Brick Lane in Shoreditch/Bethnal Green is the epicentre of this particularly hipster region and some of the best street art can be found here and in the surrounding streets. Famous for its epic Sunday street market and more curry shops than you can shake a cinnamon stick at, the lane was originally named for the many brick manufactures who set up their businesses along the road. Whenever I’m in a foreign country I tend to spend at least my first week over-indulging in all kinds of less-than-healthy food. I can’t help myself, new food is just too exciting! It’s not even so much the restaurants that tempt me, as they’ll usually have a variety of delicious-sounding healthy choices, but rather the grocery stores filled with strange and amazing-sounding goodies. Rice pudding in a tin for 69p? 100% coming home with me (wasn’t very good to be honest). While Cape Town is a world-class foodie capital, we simply cannot compete when it comes to the sheer volume of food products found in a place like the UK, #thirdworldproblems amirite?!
But if you’re going to treat yo’self to a little cupcake with your caffeine fix, there can’t be a nicer, prettier and pinker place to do it than the postcard-perfect Peggy Porschen Cakes in the posh suburb of Belgravia. Excuse me while I slip into a sugary dreamland of endless flowers and candy-coloured bicycles…
